How an Eclectik Girl Gets Hitched

So when you’re an Eclectik Girl and you get engaged, you don’t want to have a run of the mill wedding. No offense to anyone, but I’m in my 3rd decade of life and at this point have sat through so many dry chicken dinners, painful bouquet tosses and boring ceremonies that I always said when my day came it would be different.

I initially wanted to plan a destination wedding because I mean if you follow my journey you know I love nothing more than a fantastic voyage, however I have people in my family that could not have made the journey that would have been devastated not to attend.

A few years ago, I read a story about a celebrity that did a full on surprise wedding and became intrigued with the idea. So when my boyfriend (now husband) popped the big question over a year ago, we made a pact that we were going to try to pull this off.

Planning a wedding wasn’t too difficult because my husband plans events by trade (he’s owner of the MIC DROP Experience) so him hiring a photographer or a videographer was just another Tuesday. Keeping my mouth shut was the hardest part and going through great lengths, like buying a wedding dress in another state, to complete the final details.

Funny story, when I bought my dress, I told the salesperson I was having a surprise wedding and to just put “wedding party” on my invoice in case someone randomly happened to see the paperwork. This must have set off alarm bells, because she politely inquired:

“Who is the wedding a surprise from?"

I said, “What do you mean?”

She said, “Well, does the groom know?”

So this could have been called “How an Eclectik Girl Gets Committed”.

This has been quite the journey and it was SOOOOOO hard to keep such a big secret from EVERYONE I wanted to tell. Especially because my boyfriend and I were together for 7 years before we married so every single time someone asked me “When are you all getting married?” and then looked at me with the “why buy the cow” expression, I just wanted to scream “WE’RE ENGAGED!!”

If you’ve watched the video you know, but we lured everyone there by telling them it was a surprise engagement party for me, but really, the surprise was on them! Everything after our vows is a bit of a blur, but the night went exactly as we planned and many of our guests have said it was the most fun wedding they ever attended, which is what we were going for.

A few people are still upset at how we did it and can’t really understand, but for my groom and me, we did it our way and as we enter the journey of a lifetime together, that’s all that matters.

Oh and in case you’re wondering we had crab legs, not dry chicken, for dinner and I didn’t toss the bouquet.

If you’re interested in learning more on how to pull this off, feel free to contact me!
